Elizabeth Gilbert offering perinatal support in the UK

Elizabeth Gilbert

Founder of Conception

A little bit about me

I’m Lizzie and I am so glad you’re here.
I grew up in South Africa, surrounded by a big, lively family, and I’ve always felt drawn to caring for people. That led me to train in nursing and midwifery, and that same heart for care still guides everything I do today. A few years ago, I moved to the UK to be closer to family, explore life in a new part of the world, and grow both personally and professionally. Along the way, I’ve continued to follow what has always felt like my passion: supporting families through some of the most meaningful and transformative moments in life.

The heart behind conception:

Through my years in healthcare and my own life experience, I kept noticing the same pattern. Families often move through pregnancy, birth and the early weeks with less support than they truly need. It is a tender and vulnerable time. Too often people are left to work things out on their own.
Conception grew from a desire to offer something steadier. Support that feels calm, consistent and personal. Care that is genuinely human and responsive rather than rushed or generic.
I work with a small number of families at a time so that support can be thoughtful and tailored. This might look like helping you prepare and understand your options during pregnancy, being a calm and familiar presence during labour or supporting the transition at home in the early postnatal days with practical and emotional care.
My role is to offer non-clinical perinatal support alongside your existing maternity care. I do not replace your midwife, obstetrician or healthcare team. I do not provide medical advice or clinical decision making. Instead I work alongside the NHS and private providers to offer continuity, education and steady support throughout this period.
The focus is always on helping families feel more confident and less alone. Care remains centred around your choices, your circumstances and the guidance of your medical team.
