In the Netherlands, families receive home-based kraamzorg care. This is a structured postnatal support system where a trained maternity nurse visits the family at home to support recovery in the days following birth. For around eight to ten days, families receive regular daytime visits that include hands-on care, wellbeing checks for both mother and baby and gentle guidance through those first days together. This care is arranged during pregnancy and covered by Dutch health insurance, making it a normal and expected part of postnatal recovery.

The focus of kraamzorg is not on taking over. It is about helping parents build confidence in caring for their baby themselves. Support centres on feeding, physical recovery and newborn care in a way that builds skills and independence. Families are guided rather than managed so the transition into caring for their baby alone feels steady and supported.

The Dutch Way is Conception’s adaptation of this approach for families in the UK. It is inspired by the kraamzorg model and tailored to local needs, offered as a private service alongside existing maternity care. Support is provided personally by a qualified nurse with extensive midwifery experience, allowing for continuity and professional oversight within a non-clinical role.

Visits take place during daylight hours within the first 10-14 days after birth. The focus is on supporting rest and recovery, answering questions as they arise and helping families settle into life with their baby feeling capable and supported.

Care is available between 8am and 5pm and is offered through calm, structured visits that fit around your family’s needs. Each visit is a minimum of three hours, with the option to extend up to eight hours if helpful. This includes a short break for lunch.

During visits, support may include time for you to rest and recover, guidance with feeding, support with newborn care and space to ask questions as they come up. I also keep a gentle eye on how both you and your baby are doing. The focus is on practical reassurance and steady presence rather than taking over, so you can build confidence in your own rhythm as a family.

We will shape the pattern of support together. This might look like a few longer visits in the early days, followed by shorter sessions as your confidence grows. Visits usually begin within 24 to 48 hours after birth, with a loose outline agreed during pregnancy so time is set aside for you when you are likely to need it most.

The Embrace birth package includes 9 hours of postpartum support at a reduced bundled rate. This reflects the value of continuity and presence during recovery. These hours can be used flexibly within the first ten days after birth and extended if needed, all at the same reduced rate compared with booking support separately.

The standard hourly rate is £55 per hour, with a minimum booking of 3 hours.
