Birth Support

The right support can make a meaningful difference during birth. Continuous care from a familiar, trusted presence helps you feel calm, safe and supported. Research shows that families who receive continuous labour support often experience shorter labours, fewer interventions and greater satisfaction with their birth experience.

With a background in nursing and extensive experience in maternity care, my approach blends professional knowledge with calm, practical support. Birth support begins well before labour, with antenatal education forming a key part of preparation, ensuring you feel informed and confident before the on-call period begins.

All antenatal education is planned to be completed by 36 weeks. This allows time for understanding to settle, questions to arise naturally and confidence to build without the pressure of labour feeling close.

Once your deposit has been paid, I am available throughout pregnancy for guidance and reassurance via WhatsApp or email during normal office hours. This support is there to help you feel supported and steady as things arise in the weeks leading up to birth.

From 38 weeks, support shifts to on-call availability. We stay in close contact as changes begin, and when labour is established, I join you when the time feels right.

During labour, my focus is on you and your experience. I offer comfort measures such as supporting breathing, suggesting position changes and providing reassurance and gentle touch where helpful. I also support your partner, helping them feel confident in how they can support you. At times this is quiet presence. At others it is practical help such as fetching drinks, creating a calm environment or offering grounding reassurance.

I work alongside your midwives or medical team. They provide clinical care and oversight. My role is to support you emotionally and practically, help you understand what is happening and ensure you feel heard, supported and never alone.

After your baby is born, I remain with you for a short time to help you settle. This may include supporting your first feed, helping you feel comfortable, bringing food or drinks and gently tidying the space so you can rest and take in the first moments with your baby.

Birth support is not about directing or replacing care. It is about being alongside you, offering steady, informed support so you can move through birth feeling prepared, supported and cared for.
